They had an interesting visit to see the House of Keys & had a mock Sitting -- the children took on various roles as Members. They also saw where Tynwald & the Legislative Council sit. It was all explained to the class by Rushen MHKs Quintin Gill & Juan Watterson -- they were brilliant! Thanks to them both. After lunch the class went to Castletown to visit the old House of Keys, which was good. Thanks also to Mr Manton, Mr Cowin & Mr Callow for looking after the class during the day. A rather windy & often wet afternoon caused the opening ceremony to be held inside Arbory School & the Sports were cancelled except for the "Marathon" & Walk. But many people still enjoyed the event, meeting others in the tents & having their traditional LCK tea. Our Opener was Mr Richard "Milky" Quayle, of TT fame, & Mrs Lydia Quayle kindly crowned our festival Princess Miss Ashley Pilling. Thanks to all. Thursday 28 June 2007: Pictures by Mike Justice. ]]> Tue Dec 12 2006 Santa Visits Ballabeg, Arbory http://adycowin.fotopic.net/c1154674.html There was a large crowd gathered to see the swithching on of the Christmas Tree lights in front of the Parish Hall at 6 o'clock. Rushen Band played some carol music, refreshments were served and Santa arrived on his new sleigh. Many excited children, and a few adults, went up to see Father Christmas -- each received some sweets and a glow-stick. Santa then made a visit to Arbory School to see the Brownies at their Christmas Party. It was enjoyed by all. Thanks to all concerned. Many children from Arbory School were present and a good group of them in costume performed an extract from the play Heart of Oak & gave readings to tell the story of local hero Captain John Quilliam. Commerative wreaths were laid at the grave of John Quilliam by the Lieutenant Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks, with Lady Haddacks, and by Mr Gale (Royal Navy Association) and by Jessica Newby with Adam Cowin (Arbory School). ]]> Fri Oct 20 2006 Arbory School play -- John Quilliam: Heart of Oak http://adycowin.fotopic.net/c1114993.html This play, written by Chris Maybury, was performed by Years 5 & 6 at Arbory School. It's a commerative story about a historical hero of the Parish, Captain John Quilliam. It tells his life story & especially the great contribution he made at the Battle of Trafalgar by rigging the steering tiller on HMS Victory. The children performed the play brilliantly and the music, scenery & costumes were excellent. Thanks to the teachers and especially Mrs Collister, the acting headteacher. Well done to all! Sorry I couldn't get shots of more, especially 1/2 marathon leaders as I also did a stint on a Watering Station. Well done to all competitors, the organisers / IOMVAC, officials & thanks to our main sponsor & 'Goody Bag' providers.
